Clobazam 10mg is a 1,5-benzodiazepine primarily indicated as an adjunctive therapy for epilepsy, especially Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, but also used for anxiety and sleep disorders. It provides anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, and mild muscle relaxant effects by enhancing GABA-A receptor activity.
Clobazam has a longer duration of action and less sedative effect compared to many benzodiazepines, making it favorable for chronic use in epilepsy. Side effects may include somnolence, lethargy, and (in children) behavioral changes.
Tolerance and withdrawal can occur with prolonged or abrupt cessation. It is generally considered safer for long-term therapy than classic benzodiazepines like diazepam.
• Primary uses: Epilepsy, adjunct for Lennox-Gastaut, anxiety (off-label).
• Onset: Hours for anxiolysis; variable for anticonvulsant effect.
• Warnings: Tolerance and withdrawal possible after extended use.
• Risks: Drowsiness, dependence, withdrawal, rare behavioral changes.
