Zapain 30mg/500mg is a combination analgesic containing codeine phosphate (30mg) and paracetamol (500mg), used to treat moderate to severe pain unresponsive to non-opioid medications alone.
Codeine, a weak opioid, works centrally to alter pain perception, while paracetamol acts peripherally to reduce pain and fever. The combination provides synergistic analgesia but carries risks of dependency, sedation, and hepatic toxicity if misused or taken long-term.
Zapain should be reserved for short-term use under medical supervision. Paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage, and codeine may lead to habit formation, especially in higher or prolonged dosing. Not suitable for use in children under 12 or in patients with respiratory depression.
• Primary uses: Moderate to severe pain (e.g., post-surgical, dental, musculoskeletal).
• Onset: 30–60 minutes.
• Warnings: Prescription-only; avoid alcohol; monitor liver function.
• Risks: Dependence, liver damage, constipation, sedation, respiratory depression.
